Arenal Volcano
Costa Rica is home to many active and dormant volcanoes, but perhaps the most famous is Arenal Volcano. Located in the northwestern part of the country, Arenal is a breathtaking natural wonder that has captivated visitors for generations.
Arenal Volcano rises to a height of 1,657 meters (5,436 feet) and dominates the surrounding landscape. The volcano has a distinctive cone shape that is often shrouded in mist, lending it an ethereal and mysterious quality. Although Arenal is still considered active, it has been dormant since 2010, and its last major eruption occurred in 1968.
Despite its dormant status, Arenal Volcano remains a popular destination for visitors to Costa Rica.
